The green new moon — the city goes to the lake to look at the rain

On its dates only Living AttendWalk

Practised for its own sake by the community that carries it. A visitor is a guest, not the reason it happens.

The Shravan new moon, marking the arrival of green after the first rains, kept in Udaipur as a two-day fair by Fateh Sagar — the second day traditionally for women only. It is a monsoon festival in a place that spent nine months waiting for the monsoon, which is the entire explanation.
