Eklingji

एकलिंगजी

The deity who actually rules Mewar — the Maharanas ruled as his regents

Hours unverified Living AttendVisit

Practised for its own sake by the community that carries it. A visitor is a guest, not the reason it happens.

A four-faced black marble Shiva in a temple complex at Kailashpuri, twenty-two kilometres north. The Mewar rulers styled themselves Diwan — steward — of Eklingji rather than sovereigns in their own right, which is the constitutional fiction the whole dynasty rested on. Still in active worship, with strict darshan sessions and no photography inside.

Before you go

No photography anywhere inside the complex. Leather off, phones usually deposited at the gate.

When
Hours not verified Darshan runs in fixed sessions with long closures between them. Times are NOT recorded here because publishing an unverified darshan time sends someone on a 45-minute drive to a closed door. Verify on site.
